Becoming Invaluable

Welcome to “Becoming Invaluable,”  a 4-week newsletter series designed specifically for young professionals. This may not be you (likely it isn’t), but I’m guessing you have a vested interest in a rising star who may be just the right audience.

Here it is.

Most of us, once we graduate and turn the corner on our first job, start looking down the barrel of “Is this my life? How can it become more, better, happier?” We might become  reflective and begin to think more seriously about what we’re actually doing with our newly minted education, experience, connections and even our intuition.

Income potential plays a role.
But it’s really about finding our true gifts and purpose - earlier versus later.

This threshold of awareness - usually between 24 - 32 - is an important one. I call it the Second Doorway, because the first was when you emigrated from childhood to teenhood and realized that you actually have a place in the world. You realized you have a voice. You have some control. You can impact people with who you are and what you do, for better or worse.

The Second Doorway, post-college but usually before 35, is another opportunity to assert yourself. But now, you know more. You know who you are more fully, and importantly, who you think you’d like to become. You see people doing what you want to do, having what you want to have. Your eyes are open.

You also know, deep down, that it’s time to be more intentional about how you do what you do, if you want what you say you want. It may mean being more selective about your peers. It may be about finding a guide and mentor who can light a torch at work, help you see around the corners. It might be reprioritizing health, intellectual vigor, building acumen in some arena.

There may be a deep sense that there’s “more” to life, but you aren’t totally sure about where to look to begin building it.

You want financial stability with unlimited earning potential.
You want to be seen for your talents and strengths - recognized and appreciated.
You want to be a magnet for life - to call in the right people, circumstances and opportunities.
You want to be invaluable to your friends, colleagues, (future) business partners and family members.

But “invaluable” doesn’t just happen.
It’s cultivated and earned.

If you’re having these inklings, you’re reading the right newsletter. And whomever sent it to you obviously knows you’ve got some key ingredients to this magic. So to you, new friend, welcome.

In this series, my goal is to share some foundational rules of engagement when it comes to creating a financially abundant, emotionally engaging life. My work with CEO’s, creative entrepreneurs and some of the biggest brand names in media has shown me that those who become invaluable have specific traits in common.

Most people don’t learn them until they’re 35 or 40.

But this series is designed to lay important groundwork so that you can accelerate your learning by paying attention to the right circumstances and investing in your most potent strengths.

I became one of the younger agents at WMA, forged advertising partnerships at Tennis Channel and High School Sports dot Net, earned my Series 7 along the way, and have negotiated some of the most lucrative business deals in media. My work now is with CEO’s and creative entrepreneurs. And I’m also very interested in the generation who just might change the world. Which is… you.

So here we go.

If someone forwarded you this note, and you'd like to stay in the loop, click here to subscribe to The White Space newsletter and start applying the strategies I’ll share with you about becoming invaluable. Whether you aspire to build an empire or lead a team or start a company, it all starts with the quality of your character, skills and vision.

Drop me a note if you don’t just want to subscribe, but also want in on the actual goods, starting now. Together with my longtime business partner, brand strategist Amy Swift Crosby, I’m putting together a small circle for group-advising in September that you may want to join.

Let’s chat and see if you’re a good fit.

Excited to hear from you.
